Festival of Light an amazing success

You were promised something special and it was delivered!

As one person stated ... we now have a new phrase ... 'A Bandon promise' .... all that was promised ... and more!!!

For those of you who visited the town, it's fair to say that the carnival atmosphere, the tremendous effort made by the many street performers, the hard work of all of the volunteers and the important job done by Ciara Burns (Who turned on the lights) proved to be a massive draw for the public despite the inclement weather.

The goodwill has already kicked in with so many words and texts of congratulations to all involved.

The entire day has proved a huge success.

The day began with the farmers market relocating to South Main Street for the day to create a Christmas Market atmosphere.

The level of participation by so many different groups from our local talented youth was exemplary. The four locations kept many of the public entertained from c.2pm to 4.30pm while some continued until 6pm.

Unfortunately Santa was unable to land by helicopter at the GAA club due to the poor weather as we previously advised. Despite trying to get the word out there from Friday afternoon, many people did not get the message on time and assembled there.... but they still got to see both Mr & Mrs Claus at the main stage.

Despite this mini setback, Santa and Mrs Claus were available to meet all of the brilliant young kids and all received a special goodie bag. The kids were on their best behaviour and we believe Santa will be very busy and will have to bring an extra heavy bag of toys to the Bandon area at Christmas.

Colm Donnellan, our MC for the activities welcomed the visitors, described the concept, thanked the volunteers and oversaw the countdown.

Ciara Burns, our special winner who was chosen by the listeners of 96 & 103 FM to turn on the lights did a great job and we hope it will be a special moment for her and her family.

I will leave the main 'thank you's' for another day but on behalf of the Lights Committee .... to those of you who helped to make a difference in so many ways .... A sincerest Thank You.

More another day.
