Bandon Morris Minor Rally 2008 - Welcome!

For neary 20 years Bandon has played host to the Irish and International Morris Minor Rally welcoming many visitors from the MMOC. A new initiative is being made to rejuvenate this activity in August 2008.
To achieve this goal, it is important that those interested will inform the committee of their level of interest. The rally will take place in conjunction with the Bandon Summerfest, a local week-long festival catered towards all age groups and all interests.
More information will be hosted on the http://www.bandon.ie/ website over the next few weeks and if you have an interest or would like to be on their emailing list, please email bandonmorrisminorrally2008@gmail.com to express a note of interest and they will email you further details once available.

October / November Updates

1.
Congratulations to the fantastic work by the organisers and participants of the 2007 Richie O'Neill Cork to Bandon walk. Not only did the walk raise the phenomenal amount of €100,000 but it also realised another incredible feat in ensuring that the €1 million barrier had been raised over the lifetime of the campaign.
To all of those who were involved ... well done on a fantastic effort and we are very proud to be able to say that you show the true spirit of Bandon people in your efforts.
I hope to dedicate a part of this website to the great efforts of all those involved over the next few weeks.

2.
Commiserations to the Bandon hurling team who were pipped at the post in last Sunday's county intermediate hurling championship final. It was a true case of 'so near and yet so far' for the lillywhites. There were great displays by so many of the team but lady luck did not shine upon our boys. For a team that showed great spirit and determination ... there's no doubting that they will go one better next year.

3.
Bandon has recently achieved Fairtrade status. Congrats to the Bandon Fairtrade Steering Committee on achieveing this most noteworthy honour for our town.

4.
The Christmas Lights are on their way. Throughout the town, you cannot but see the cars on display highlighting the draw for a €10,000 car voucher. This voucher is the top prize for the draw that will take place in late December. Tickets are priced at just €5 and are available in most retail outlets throughout the town. Not only could you win the voucher but you are also supporting a most worthwhile cause in the Bandon Christmas Lights project. From what I've seen, people are in for a nice surprise this Christmas. I hope to highlight what to expect on the website over the next few weeks.

5.
Neighbourhood watch scheme to be launched.
The Gardai are about to launch a new initiative in the town regarding a neighbourhood watch scheme. A public meeting will take place in the Munster Arms Hotel on Wed, Nov 7 at 8pm. This initiative makes a great contribution to the standard of life in our community and and public involvement will be greatly appreciated.

6.
Multi storey car park a possibility for Bandon.
There is a possibility that Bandon may see a new 4 storey car park on the site of the former Harte's Timber Yard on St Patrick's Quay, Bandon. A lot of hard work has already been done to examine how feasible the project is. A special word of thanks to the Bandon Town Council who, along with Arup Consultant Engineers oversaw the creation of the feasibility study. More news when available.

7.
Bandon Action Plan:
Due to delays with hiring a group of consultants to oversee the study of Bandon, unfortunately the overall time schedule has been delayed by c.2 months. Where it was hoped that the study would have already started and be ready for an early 2008 publication date ... this deadline has been pushed back.
Once the consultancy group has been hired, this blog, the http://www.bandon.ie/ website and other forms of media will be used to get the message out there as to what is happening. The whole plan is based on 'social inclusion' and any stakeholder in our community can forward their submissions to create the Bandon we want for the future. Rest asured.. the public will be informed as will all other decision makers. Everyone is invited to have their say so please contact the consultancy group when they are hired ... watch this space for details.
